I just need to know the low down on the QuadroFX and the GeforceFX. I do DCC and am putting together a newcomputer for the first time. I first really considered other brands but came back to the Nvidia quadro4 980 XGL for about $570 but now I see the PNY NVIDIA Quadro FX 1000 for about $850. Thats a big difference in price but performance??? I always get confused trying to decifer nvidias stats. Now I couldn't find the GeForce FX price but I believe that is out of my range. I am willing to pay up to $900 but really need to be convinced. All I would like is someones personal experience and knowlege about these cards. Basically I am trying to get enough pros to buy the more expensive card and I am having a really hard time sifting the info. Is it just me or does Nvidia make it hard to find out the truth.
What do you mean? I know that they are expensive and sure they are hot and loud but that doesn't change much. And I disagree they are much better than the 9700 Pro in just about every other factor that doesn't involve games. I am looking for a card that is highend and can do both 3D and games. Well, do you know where I can go to get more information?
Ati's 9700 pro card, the Fire GL X1, sucks. It gets beaten by a quadro 980XGL!!! I personally have not seen any benches w/ the quadro fx, so cannot reccomend it right now. Yes it has features that if properly utilized will rape any card out there (we're talkin like 2x or more the frame rates of others) and then its precision could lead it to aid the cpu in the final render (that'd be sweeeeet- imagine rendering times 10x faster, where raytracing is a nonissue!). I'll admit the Fire GL's used to be kickass cards, but now NV has the better performers imo. A lot of it drivers, and NV really can pump out good stuff. If you must get a comp wight now, go for a 980 xgl. If not, wait a bit, see how the fx does. IMO it has some really revolutionary stuff, which is why I am so excited about it.

Sorry about that late reply, I lost the section where your post was. By stats you mean benchmarks or actual hardware specs. The Quadro FX is clocked lower than the GeForce FX 5800 Ultra from what I have read. Hmm, actually browsing around I found this on the specviewperf website:
hp workstation xw5000 3.06GHz NVIDIA Quadro4 980XGL / NVIDIA Quadro4 980XGL hp Windows 2000 $2,768
(list): 01/03 17.95 90.35 116.74 33.01 21.94 20.27
hp workstation xw5000 3.06GHz NVIDIA Quadro FX2000 / NVIDIA Quadro FX2000 hp Windows 2000 $4,064
(list): 01/03 24.95 129.51 144.18 33.09 39.92 37.51
The benches r in the order 3dsmax Mean, DRV Mean, DX Mean, Light Mean, ProE Mean, Ugs Mean.
Pretty nice, I'm pretty sure it'll be faster though because NV will release more optimized drivers and companies will optimize their software for the fx's features (and then there's the possible vid card rendering.
