I am recording a long mix of songs (about an hour long) in to CEP2. I
was wondering if anyone knew how to "slice" the long track into a
series of smaller tracks so a person listening to the mix can skip
through the mixed tracks? I tried putting in track cues but for some
reason they don't register when I burn the mix to CD. Can anyone
suggest anything I could do in CEP2 or maybe another program I could
use rather than CEP?

Copy each section to a new file and give each its own file name. Then
bur the individual fles to cd.
Put in "track" markers(shift+F8) in the edit view (make sure they
aren't "basic" or some other type of cue. Then you should be able to
drag all the track points to the burning window. There should be no
need to break up a long .wav file just to have separate tracks.
Also, you should really look at www.audiomastersforum.org which is the
alternate forum group of www.adobe.com (Adobe bought CEP and now calls
it Audition). There is a huge amount of information there that you can
draw on to really utilize all the great features of CEP/Audition.
Good luck,
Steve

1) Insert cues at the beginning of the track, the end, and between each
selection.
2) In the cue list highlight all the cues and click "Merge".
3) Hightlight all the cues (again) and select "Batch" and write them all to
disk as individual files.
4) Use any handy software to burn the collection of wave files to a CD.
This works with any WAV file (in 44.1K/16) using any version of Cool Edit
(including those without CD writing ability) and any CD writing software.

You may look at Feurio for burning audio CDs. It has a builtin
track editor that is used to set track marks for the CD. A long
wav file will be subdivided into CD tracks which are (optionally)
linked so the play without interuptions or even clicks.
Unfortunately Feurio's track editor will ignore playlist and cuelist
entries set by CEP, so you need to copy the cuelist to the clip board
with CEP for later reference. The best way to subdivide the wav file
in Feurio is to start with the last track mark and proceed to the
beginning of the wav file.

CEP2 will do what you want it to do just fine. Perhaps you used F8 to
insert your cues. For my CD burning software to pick up the cues I need to
use Shift F8. I use Nero. I drag the long wave file into Nero's
compilation window, labeled as "Audio1" in my installation. Then, I double
click on the file. That brings up an "Audio Track Info" window. Select the
"Indexes, Limits, Split" tab. Click on "Split at index positions". Confirm
"Yes". Now, in the audio compilation window you will see a list of
individual files that Nero has created. You can now adjust the pause
between files from zero seconds to whatever you want. Two seconds between
tracks is the default. I suspect other burners work in similar ways.

Carey -- you are a genius! I've been trying to figure this problem out for
some time now, and your solution works beautifully. BTW: It works with MP3
files, too . . .
Really! I've had the need for that countless times and have
always (5+ years) been too lazy to look up what those
buttons were for or even to click on them and try them. :-(
Thanks,
Bob
