Treo 600 - A Little Nervous

While trying to get cookies to work (you guys told me how to fix), I found
there was an Updater 1.2 for the Treo 600.

I downloaded and unzipped, then ran Treo600SprintUpdater1.20. When I got to
the part where it said to make sure the battery was fully charged, I
cancelled the installation...even though the battery said fully charged I
figured I'd wait until the next morning to be sure.

This morning, with a fully charged battery, I pressed the HotSync button
prior to running the install program again, but when I did, the update
began. I patiently waited until the update was complete, and when it was, I
was required to press the button for a 'reset'.

After the reset, I find all my user info missing -- contacts, favorites,
installed programs etc.

It appears all I need to do now, is to HotSync again...but how do I know
that what's in the phone now, won't overwrite the info from the last
HotSync, and I'll lose that data all-together (like I did in my SPH I300 in
it's final days)? Can I make copies of those latest HotSync files so I have
a backup of that data? If so, which files are they?

Also, how do I know if I need an SD chip? Would the chip enhance performance
even if I didn't really need the additional memory?

Thats a preference setting

Phone overwrites Palm Desktop
Palm Desktop over writes phone

in the case you want the latter.

Even after reading some of the 1.20 upgrade horror stories at Treocentral, I
decided to try that final HotSync anyway. When I did, everything came back.

While there was some trepidation associated with the update, there were no
complications...just follow the instructions.

Glad to hear it worked for you. The update is (very roughly)
analogous to a BIOS update, and thus isn't without risk, even in the
best of circumstances.

BTW, the SD card will *not* improve performance. It's simply an
expansion of storage space. If it's anything, it's slower than the
installed memory on the Treo.
