Hi,

I've looked for a soln but have not had any luck. Not sure if this is possible but it seems simple.

I have the Asus rt-n56u and wondering if its possible to connect to a secure remote VPN using the latest router firmware?
I read somewhere that Tomato can be installed on my asus and then its able to connect via OpenVPN.
But I dont have time to reconfig everthing over to Tomato or other.

Thanks in advance.

I don't see anything in the specs that would suggest it supports a VPN (client, specifically) of any kind.

http://www.asus.com/Networking/RTN56U/#specifications

And unfortunately, afaik, this is one of the few ASUS routers that don’t support dd-wrt/tomato (third party firmware). If it did, then yes, various VPN solutions are usually available (e.g., PPTP, OpenVPN).

Actually, there is 3rd party software available for the RT-N56u by Padavan.
It is available here: https://code.google.com/p/rt-n56u/downloads/list

It appears that openVPN can be installed. Check the forum at smallnetbuilder.com
