Wrong Forum I Know!

I know this is the wrong forum to ask this on but I really want an answer.

My question is a simple one (well to be honest I have 2)

1. Why does the "my threads" link not show links that I have participated in unless it just fancies doing so? and why don't I get email notification even though I asked for it. It appears to be almost random!

2. Why are there so many, clearly and very obvious spam bots registered and trolling this site and why are people supporting them - they are only going to create a rubbish help site surely?

Answer to 1- you only get a thread coming up if it has a new post otherwise it doesn't show up. For someone like myself that's a good thing or I would have about 500 threads showing. Secondly you have to submit a response and not in quick reply and make sure the check mark is there for email notification. Unfortunately the emails are sometimes sent out a bit after the new post.

2- I've been a member of this site for some time and haven't had a problem with that. I've only seen a few trolls. Most people just don't know and instead of searching the thread create a new one.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I understand the way it should work but it does not seem to work I have regularly rechecked post after having clicked on My Threads and there have been new replies. Also I will sometimes get a list of replies and then view a few and the rest just then vanish from the list. Its odd but maybe I am not geting it - but I use a lot of forums!

do you not think these posts are Auto Generated?:

this is just from the first page of the WIN 7 Forum

Mainly its a driver request and usually the text is nothing more than "Hello," perfectly formatted every time, seems suspicious to me.

Cheers mate

Not auto generated.
Try it yourself. Create a new topic, put in the topic title and sub-category and leave the body blank. That's how the Hello topics get generated.

(1) Email is database driven and has been hit/miss/WTF for quite a while now. Probably do the very large workload. It's also a batch process and not a real time process. It can also make a difference if you sign in at the US or UK server.

My Threads; Try using that option at the forum root. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/

ahhh thank you for that it seemed really weird - that is defo something that the Admin should prevent but at least I know now. Does still seem like a lot of "Free Download" type ones around though and they never get any follow ups by the OP.

Spot on again mate I have been signing on at both (phone / PC / Laptop) and batching would clear up the other weirdness. Thanks for your time mate its been bothering me!
