Hello,
I'm trying to buy a modem so I don't have to pay comcast a monthly modem fee to rent one of theirs. The fee in my area is 7 bucks a month. I am going to need internet for the rest of my life, so I figured in the long run it would be good to buy a modem considering they last about a year or two before going bad.
I saw the Motorola SBG6580 online and I was curious what you guys think of it? It is a two in one, which eliminates the use of having a router. I was wondering if it would be possible to use a linksys router instead of a built in router? Is there a setting that would turn off the router and just let it act as a modem? Would it decrease my bandwith because I would be technically hooking up a router to another router? Sorry if I'm not being very clear. I just want to know that if in the future I wanted to use a high tech router or something, I'll have that option with that modem.
