new V.92 seems slow

ive just bought a smart link V.92 fax/data modem for my new computer but seems slower than the V.90 on the old pentium(new one is an athlon@1.4GHZ any ideas why?

no the old one was internal made by connexant and the new one was made by dynamode

Don't know much about those companies, but maybe the older company's modems are better than the new one?

Does your ISP support V.92? they say that it will be slower if your ISP doesn't support it. Any come on, USRobotcs modems are expensive, but they are the best....

Why?

I figured all modems are limited to their download speed anyway e.g. 56K etc.
