Recordable Media Group International B.V., Oosterhout, The Netherlands
has been accumulating 37 years of non-interrupted experience on
magnetic tape manufacturing. With their highly skilled and experienced
personnel and management, RMG International is fully dedicated to
magnetic tape. A slim organisational structure enables low overhead.
When EMTEC closed down, RMG International acquired the EMTEC production
and quality assurance equipment necessary to convert & complete the
Oosterhout production lines to the EMTEC standards for audio tape
production.
RMG International has the EMTEC production know how formulations and
patents.
Former EMTEC key personnel is assisting in Oosterhout in order to
maintain the EMTEC standards.
Following the installation of the EMTEC equipment and positive results
of comprehensive studies on availability of the necessary raw
materials, RMG International started prototype coating for audio
pancake tape and is now preparing for studio tape.
I can't seem to Google up any substatianting evidence.

I have been talking to the RMG guys. They've been making tape since the early
1970s, and they have basically been saying for the last year or so that they
were going to be back in the mastering tape business as soon as they could clear
up their material supply problems.
I gather from the press release that they might have cleared them up.
Likewise, Greencorp has the facilities, materials, and formulae from Zonal and
they could set up to make the Zonal tapes if they cared. But I cannot convince
anyone over there that it's worth their time to do so.

I'm working on it, but lead time in Recording magazine is about six months.
Sometimes even longer.
>Are you keeping up with the SPARS thing?
It's just a group buy of tape, nothing all that exciting. If Quantegy is still
open, it doesn't matter, because they'll be making tape for anyone who asks. If
they aren't still open, it doesn't matter either.

The chart comparing the tape formulations didnt display correctly.
Basically it's the BASF/EMTEC stuff, 900, 911, etc. They were
comparing it to the quantegy equivalent formulations. Also, the
newsgroup may not show the part of the press release I already quoted.

My suspicion is that the tapes are going to turn out to be considerably
different from the original BASF types, just because of the usual variations
between production facilities. But I also bet the slitting is good and
the bias point is stable from batch to batch.

I think this is excellent news for you analog guys. Just curious Scott: What
is slitting?
