how to enable SMART

ok i have a GA-8PE667 Ultra 2 Mobo.

i have a Seagate 80Gb baracuda iv HDD

on boot up my computer shows a thing saying
SMART capabilitys on primary hard disk drive = "disabled"

ok i have been having a few minor HDD problems and am wanting to turn on SMART,
now i have looked in the Bios and there doesn't seem to be an option to enable it.

SO HOW DO I DO IT.

p.s. i have antoher 4Gb HDD (probably 4200rpm ata33 or somthing with no SMART capabilities) if that makes any difference, it is on a raid channel as a normal ata drive (e.g no raid set up, but using the extra channels from the raid chip)

Have you looked under the advanced menu in BIOS? I think for Gigabyte mobo, you need to press Ctrl-F1 to enter that menu.

umm na tat didn't work.

anyway i did an online self test of the drive and it said i should return the drive!!!! and get an RMA.

so that is what i am doing.

thanks for the help and i am still interested in the answer because my new HDD will need to have the SMART function turned on as well.

S.M.A.R.T. can only being turned on in BIOS. Check your BIOS setting carefully.

Good or Bad have no meaning at all, depends on what your point of view is.
