Hello. I have a desktop computer that connects to the Internet with a modem. I just bought a new computer that I want to use in a different room in my house. Can I use a Wi-Fi USB adapter to access the Internet on my new computer? I need "dummy" instructions thanks so much!

Yes, wireless USB adapters work well and are inexpensive. If you are running Windows 7, I recommend the TP-Link TL-WN722N as it is plug and play, nothing to install and it works well. Just plug it into a USB 2 port on the back of the computer so it is out of the way and it will take a few minutes to install itself. If your computer and router are configured to automatically get IP addresses, it will start working at that point.
