I left Sprint a couple of years ago because they never implemented true
mobile-to-mobile text messaging. For years they just kept saying "it was
coming soon". Did it ever arrive? Or is it still that mobile-web based
messaging? Thanks.

Yes it arrived with a whimper rather than a bang, never a promotion to
announce its arrival, but many new phones are SMS capable, including the
Sanyo 7300 which has the additional distinction of not being MADE in
CHINA.

Yes, it arrived, but it is currently offered only on select phones. The
Samsung A680 is the phone I have and it works wonderfully.

First, everything new going forward.
Currently, a good portion of the handsets on the website. I'll list the
ones on the sprint website now that don't support it, and I'll exclude
PDA phones because I don't know. (except that the Treo 300 doesn't and
the Treo 600 does)

These handsets don't:

A600
SCP8100
RL2000
VGA1000

All of the other handsets on the consumer section of the website do
support SMS, and again, I'm not speaking for PDA models... Of course,
standard disclaimers apply, double check before you make a purchase, but
I don't think I missed anything.
