Reason 2.5 is just for midi, right? So what is the best REAL TIME
audio
software to run in conjunction with Reason 2.5?

I want to be able to multitrack a song out in Reason 2.5. Then be able
to
export the tracks from Reason 2.5 into a real time recording program.
I want
to be able to mix REAL TIME AUDIO with MIDI. I want to have the
freedom to
turn down individual tracks from my Reason recordings. In the same
software
that I am recording in real time with....Does this make sense? I am
thinking
about cubase sx? Also to do this will I need rewire? I really have no
clue
what rewire is....I have just heard somewhere that, that is the program
that I
need to tie my Reason recordings with other software....

I am new to this so I need some serious help....

Hi there...

Use reason as a REWIRE slave to your sequencing software (sonar,
cubase, or any other rewire compatible software)... this way you'll be
able to use ALL of the reason instruments as virtual audio outs in your
application, consequently, you will be able to export and mixdown your
tracks as audio.
REWIRE is the keyword here... look it up in your reason help file as
well as in your sequencing software manual.

Good luck,

There is another way of working with Reason, without using ReWire . . .
you can export your Reason sounds as wav files, then import these into
a multi-tracker and mix them there. I work that way often . . . it's a
bit less flexible, but works fine.

I do this in Pro Tools LE 6.4. I bring all my reason sounds back into PT as
mono tracks, all with Reason as the insert. Then on each of the tracks, set
the rewire channel to 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, ect respectively (obviously pan and
use two channels for stereo units). Then, if you look on the back of the
head unit in Reason, you'll see theres a whole set of inputs. These will now
correspond to the inputs you have setup on the tracks created in PT.

So, what I prefer to do is not bother with a mixer in reason, connect all
the devices i'm using directly to the head unit, and mix and do my real time
effects and dsp in PT.

Its quite a unique setup to protools having rewire on every channel... i've
used cubase sx 2 and reason, and i think you can only enable for the master
L and R channels from reason... im not too sure though, so don't quote me on
that one.. you might want to try enabling all of the rewire channels in
cubase and seeing if that changes the mixer setup in any way.. might just
then be a simple case of routing...
