Start up noise w/ Yamaha burner...normal?

I have a Yamaha 24x cd-rw, I forget the model name. When I first turn on my computer and the Yamaha turns on it makes a noise for a couple seconds, it's kind of a stuttering sound, I know it's not the best explanation, but I don't know how else to describe it.
