No Wirless Connection in Laptop (Averatec 3200)

Hello,

I recently had someone ask me if I can help them get the wireless to work again after they had done a clean install of their infected laptop. They then installed Windows XP, Service Pack 1 and realized that the laptop was no longer detecting the internet. Which worked fine before.

I then take their laptop to look at the problem and the first thing that came to mind was the drivers. This laptop is an Averatec 3200. I installed all the drivers and had a success in installing most of them. Yet the thing is that one of the drivers (A broadcom wireless driver) is not starting up the wi-fi detection. I know the program is installed because it shows up in add/remove. (What I really want is XP's ability to detect wirless internet. Only options the computer knows is wireless by usb and line connection)

I looked at device manager and the network card section is unknown and has a yellow sign that its not set up. I tried to locate Broadcom installation that I did but it is not on the list.

What should I do? Spend a whole day trying to figure this out and people with this laptop have said that I have to install a Chipset driver and that the Averatec drivers available do not come with a chipset driver. Anyways, everywhere I looked I have come out empty handed...

thanks for reading and hope somebody here has more knowledge about what options I can take.

(connecting laptop to Ethernet for now; Also I upgraded the laptop to up to Service pack 3 and still nothing)
