I'm writing about games that feature advertising for real-world
products. You know--billboards in car-racing games with AutoZone ads,
or the character in Splinter Cell using a Palm handheld.

Do gamers notice this sort of thing? Does it affect your buying habits?
Does it get on your nerves?

I'd like to include your views in a story I'm writing. I want to
publish your name, age, occupation and the community where you live.

This is for real. Check the links below for some of my other writing.

If you're interested, please e-mail me ASAP. Thanks!

<biting tongue so as not to make Chris Elliott/Scary Movie 2 reference>

Didn't ol' Sam Fisher use Sony Ericsson cellphones in the latest game? Me
and Sam both have P900s. Damn, we're cool.

I don't see anything wrong with products and billboards in games. They
are certainly less annoying than many other forms of advertising.

You've missed posting this to the one group where you could really get some
good answers--rec.autos.simulators. I'd xpost it there for you, but if
you're interested you can do it yourself.

Racing sims have had real-world advertising for years, and if it's not
included originally, there's most likely a user mod that adds it or enhances
it.

If you need to email, then chainbreaker (naturally) at comcast dot
net--that's "net" not "com"--should do it.

Sometimes they enhance realism, see RealGTA, which replaces shop
textures with real ones like Coke and Pizza Hut, likewise with Crazy
Taxi.

There's no place for them in fantasy games though. I don't want to see
Jade restore her energy with a red-bull instead of Starkos in Beyond
Good and Evil.

In SM2, as Chris Elliot`s character is ,errr, porking the roast turkey (the
other white meat?) he screams out "Hiawatha"
