We're planning to use a good shotgun mic like the Sennheiser 416 for
our Easter drama. This would be in addition to 7 wireless headsets for
the main actors. The shotgun will be used to cover crowd comments,
smaller roles, etc.
Distance from the stage lip will be about 6-8 feet.
Will this be a workable config? All help appreciated.

Reinforcement? Recording? Acoutics? Speaker locations?
Are you aware that there is a newsgroup chartered for sound
reinforcement? news:alt.audio.pro.live-sound
With no more information than you have provided, I wouldn't
have very high expectations.

For PA or recording? Is the boom operator going to be listening to just
the shotgun mike or is he going to have to listen to the whole feed?
