Hi. My harddrive has horrid performance, and i can't quite figure out what the problem is. The motherboard im using is the Asus A7V8X and the harddrive is the Maxtor 6L080L4 (the 80GB version D740X 7200RPM drive). I have tried it on both the IDE channel and the raid array (as a single drive) and they both yeild bad performance. After many trials, it only yields a 15000-20000kb/s transfer rate, about 1/2 of what it should be acheaving. Its in UDMA mode6. I've tried in both XPPRO and 2000PRO. Ive used WinBench '99 and SiSoft Sandra 2002.
Buffered Read: 74mb/s
Sequential Read: 22mb/s
Random Read: 5mb/s
Buffered Write: 82mb/s
Sequential Write: 17mb/s
Raondom Write: 7mb/s
Average Access Time: 9 ms

Drive Index 15286kB/s

Other System Information:
512mb of PC2700
Radeon 7500
Athlon 1800+
the drive is the only one on the channel.
Thanks

Have you defragmented this drive recently? Also try running a scandisk/checkdisk on it, you may have some bad sectors/clusters that are affecting your performance.

sandra sucks at properly benchmarking raid drives... or even stand alone drives for that matter.

Many drive benchmark programs do have issues with raid arrays. Does it FEEL slow?

ive just installed 2k a few days ago (monday i think), so i havent defraged it recently, and it was a clean format too, rather then simply reinstalling the OS.

Like i said, i have tried it on both my primary IDE channel and the onboard raid array. I've used WinBench99 with the same results.

Clean installs can result in 50% fragmentation...

Defrag it, run your benchmarks again. Betcha get better results.
