So guy replied to me at www.madonion.com that it's "NOT HARD TO CALL YOUR ISP AND TO CLEAN UP THE LINE, OR FIX IT!"
I guess he answered the question nof mine...it was:"how to get rid of packet loss?"
I'm on Earthlink, I have old lines, so they go as high as 38.666bps, but 1 year ago, some dudes came in our neighborhood and said that they will replace the lines, they started and in a week they stopped and never appeard again....what the hell...they didn't change at MY HOUSE! Is there any hope they will continue that some day?
Also how can ISP clean up the lines? what does that mean? and what can ISP fix? can ISP test the line?
Earthlink didn't guarantee any connection, but they said they use V.90 56K lines. What can they fix?
I'm confused....
what hje means is that if you call you r local phone company and complain of static while on the phone they will run a test on your line for loss of signal (same problems that result in packet loss causes static while on the phone). if they find problems (and they always do), most locals have a policy that says they will replace the line (within reason). costs you nothing, so call. but phrase it like you have static, not that you want faster internet speeds.
phone company or ISP?
My phone company is different from ISP!Whom do I call? Earthlink?
So I can just call and say:"I have problems with my telephone line, can you check it please?" and then if they find problems they can replace the line? FREE? they charge you for that...
here in rhode island, usa, if you call your local PHONE COMPANY and complain of static on the line and request a line check, they will repair any old or damaged lines free. its their line, why would they charge you? Now, if the line in you house sucks, thats your problem. im talking about the lines coming into your home. dont call your ISP because they dont own the lines, they just allow you to use them. they cant fix the telephone lines anymore than you can.
You mean like lines near the house? I said that they changed lines near 5 houses in my heighborhood, but it didn't come to my house... I don't get static and packet loss happens sometimes....not always
