I want to configure my TP-LINK TL-WR150KIT router. It reads " log in & type 192.168.1.1 & press enter" then type in "user name & password". Tyed in the numbers. The page does not come up.

If you are using a static IP address, you need to temporarily switch to DHCP so that the router can assign you an address on the same network as itself.

When you put 192.168.1.1 in your browser, does the login page show up or does it timeout? If it times out, you aren't on the same network as the router.

Hi Geoff

In order for you to be able to see the log on page you must be on the same network. The way this is usually done is by the router automatically giving you an appropriote address.

Where this fails there are two common reasons.

1: you have a static IP address set on your PC

2: The Router is not new and the default IP Address is not what is documented.

In order to help you further can you tell us:

1. Is the router a brand new item and how it is connected to your PC.

2. The version of windows you are using.

3. Any other device on your network / connected in any way.

I believe the others forgot to mention you need to be physically connected to the router via an ethernet cable to be able to configure it. also you do not need to set a static IP address but I would recommend factory resetting the router if it was previously used.

Nhasian makes a good point here. Are you connected to the router via a cable.

@Nhasian - who said he NEEDS a static IP I don't understand?
