Hi everybody!

Please advise 'couse i've stuck with my nhl2004 'freezing problem'.
Here's description:
I've been playing nhl2004 since months now without a slightest
problem. Suddenly hole computer hangs just before match starts. Screen
freezes with the home-team logo on it and i need to hard-reset
computer.
i tried to dig the game's help and found, that direct x might be the
problem. so i reinstalled diirect x 9.0 and - it worked! it means,
that i could start the match, but unfortunatly i coudn't end it. the
screen has freezed during the match and again i needed to hard-reset
the computer.
so what the hack is the problem? all i changed on my computer just
before i found that problem was some video-codecs (installed or
reinstalled or removed).
The configuration is:
Athlon 1600+ Mhz
HDD and much space on it
geforce 440Mx
256 RAM
Windows 98 SE with direct X 9.0

Can anyone suggest something?

ps. beside reinstalling the game 'couse i've done it many times of
course :)

install any addons for the home team or the visiting team?

does this happen to all teams or just a specific team?

do you have updated video drivers?

is the CD scratched or dirty?

i thought it could be driver problem. yesterday i tried to update my
nvidia driver, but unfortunately something is wrong about it. for
example now i have screen clonning disabled.
further more i did 3dMark 2001 benchmark and the computer crashed on
the first test!
now i'm going to download the newest version of nvidia driver - maybe
this will help.
but i still can't understand why after hours of playing nhl 2004
suddenly something happened to the driver?

no - it is ok.

install an older video driver as NVidia has older versions of their drivers
on their site, as that might work

You might also have a hardware problem - RAM going bad, etc.
Are you overclocking?
If so, clock down to normal and try again.

i've checked it and ram is ok.
and i do not use overclocking.
rest of the hardware seems to be o'right - i didn't notice any
problems.
further more i've installed the newest nvidia driver pack and it
didn't solve the problem.
only chance that this is a problem with the graphic card. my friend
will check this card today.
this is the last thing that comes to my mind. if the card is ok i
don't know what else could be the problem.

Victoria! :)
It WAS the driver problem. Older version (2002) didn't work neither
the latest. But the middle one from 2003 worked!
Despite codec problems that followed (the latest version of ffdshow
hangs nhl 2004 on my computer!) and usb-pad problems, after long hours
of struggling with windows 98SE i can finally play the best game on
earth at the moment once more.
Thanks for all help.
