My PSU is about dead, and I was wondering about generic ones. I haven't got the $$$ to spend on a Antec or Emermax, and I want to get a case also because my temps are hitting 40+c all the time, and I want to modify my case with a high pressure air system I built myself, but I don't want to cut my Gateway case because I might need my warranty later on.

Anyway I was thinking about a 550watt generic PSU/Case combo for $45. My current PSU is a 240Watter.

My system specs are:
1.4Ghz P4
128MB ATI 9000 PRO
40GB Hard-drive
floppy drive
CD-rom and CD-RW drives
Motherboard
128MB PC800 Rambus
Sound-card & modem

I tried to add some extra fans but the PSU refuses to boot with another fan added (my system only had the PSU and heatsink fans when it came). I know generic PSU's cannot supply as much power as they advertize, but that's why I figured on a 500+ watt generic rated one so it could provide adauqate power. Also I need a new PSU so I can add 2x128MB Corsair PC800 RAM.

for about 55 dollars you can get a nice enermax with an enermax baseline 300 watt psu, that is plenty. check them out at newegg.com

my computer is so fast, it completes an endless loop in less than 4 seconds!

Yeah a good 300W PSU will supply enough power needed and have a less chance of frying up your hardware.

My dual-PSU PC is so powerfull that the neighbourhood dims when I turn it on

Don't buy a generic 550W; get a 350W major brand power supply instead because it will probably be capable of putting out more power than the generic 550W and put it out for much longer before breaking down. This isn't surprising since the parts inside a quality 350W are usually built to withstand at least as much as the parts inside the much larger generic. Directron.com has Fortron brand 350W supplies for less than $45, delivered, and Newegg.com has the same products under the Sparkle brand.
