is there such thing as: physical distance from wireless router causing automatic throttling. i share my internet, and have noticed lately that the download speed has been insanely slow. ran a speed test to find out it was working at around 10% of what it should be. when i brought it up with the person in control of the router, they told me that the router automatically gives slower speeds if you are further away from the router. is there any automatic throttling (or capping, i'm not sure of the terminology) that occurs within a router without a person going in and actually doing it? or am i just being robbed of my money?

there's great signal where i am, and the increase (within 5 ft of router) barely increases. and as of today, i spoke to him about it again and he said "ok, i'll try something" and now the speed is back to 18-20 mbps. he said he just reset the router
