I want to connect my Samsung A-460 to my laptop and use it as a modem
for my dialup connection, in places like the Grand Canyon, where there
is cel reception but no local number for my ISP. Sprint says they no
longer sell the Wireless Web connection kit--I have an old one of
those from my 8500, but the phone connector is wrong.

Any reasonable aftermarket options? I'm not interested in spending
$150 plus monthly charges for one of those card-things (sort of a cell
phone that plugs into the laptop, as it was explained to me). I've
looked on eBay, but I haven't seen the Sprint kit for my phone, if it
ever existed.

You don't really need a kit, just a cable and a USB driver. I'm afraid
I don't remember where I bought my USB cable for my old A460, and I
downloaded the driver from a website mentioned on this group but no
longer active. You can still buy both from FutureDial, among other
places. I used the cable with FutureDial SnapSync software for
phonebook backup, not for Wireless Web.

I don't think you need dialer software either, though it can still be
downloaded from Sprint. You can just set up a Dial-Up Networking
connection (if in Windows). Same number and password as for your 8500,
if you ever used it in that way. How to do it on the 8500 is shown here

When you refer to the Grand Canyon, I hope you're referring to a place
that has native Sprint PCS service. The Wireless Web won't work while
roaming on some other provider.
