Hello folks.

What CD drives (brands, models, speeds) are currently...
- the most quiet?
- the most reliable with the most longevity?
- the best of both worlds?

I'm interested in hearing what people have to say about this. ;)

Interested also, as I am a n00b to DVD stuff in general. I am looking for a quiet, dependable DVD Player or if anyone can recommend a good DVD Player/Burner. Thanks!

I got a mad dog multimedia 16x/48x DVD-rom and it is very quite and cheap (i only paid $20 brand new from CompUSA). It is supposed to last 10,000 hours of read time. I've only had it for two months and its still working fine. As for CD burners i have a Sony 40x and it works great. It is one of the higher quality and more expensive ones though, but it never causes errors or messes up while burning.

If its not broken, you're not trying hard enough.

I reccomend the Liteon 16x 165/166 series.
Good DVD drives with high speed and reasonably quiet operation... very quiet when playing dvd's as they spin down.
