hi,
Does anyone really compared the difference when you connect your LCD to a VGA or an DVI connector? I heard DVI is better but is the difference big?
My video card have only VGA output. Is it possible to use some kind of adapter to change it to DVI? I saw such thing before but don't know it's VGA-DVI or DVI-VGA adapter.
Any information is appreciated

Personally I'm a stickler for quality and I found the DVI signal to be more vibrant and a "tighter" picture. If you look up close enough you can see the monitor refresh lines sometimes when it's hooked up to VGA. If you have an option on your LCD for DVI I would definately suggest using it....I wouldn't use it any other way. Digital purity is always better than an analogue signal.

As far as the adapter goes, I've never heard of an adapter that converts an analogue signal to digital. I don't think it's possible actually. Your video card has to support the DVI technology in order for it to go out to the monitor which also has to have hardware that supports the digital signal. It's based on DVI hardware in the monitor and video card (as far as I've learned).

Hope this helps.

Thanks. Maybe I should consider getting a new video card if not safisfying with VGA output. Afterall it's not such a big investment comparing to a 19" LCD. Those 12ms ones should be on shelf soon.
BTW, I just found a article about the adapter I mentioned. The article says DVI output contains both digital and analog signal. The adapter can extract analog signal so you will be able to get two VGA output from the card.

Although this may not be a practical solution for you, I would not want to let it go unknown that vga to dvi and dvi to vga conversion is possible.

Those are usless. You have allready lost the benefit of a digital connection. There is no difference if the AD conversion is done in the display or in an external converter. It's still an analog connection with all it's problems. I would invest in a new display card instead of a converter.

I know, im just saying that it is possible, not that they will benefit you in any way.
