I'm getting the Gigabyte GA8INXP motherboard(intel granite bay dual ddr).

I'm just wondering what RAM I should get to get the most performance out of this board.

Should I go generic, or is there really an advantage out of getting name brands?

I'm willing to overclock, but I don't really know what it takes to do that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you want low-cost performance, then Samsung or Kingston offers good alternatives, however, the ultimate is Corsair. I suggest getting PC2700 is on a budget, but make sure it is the Low Latency model. It's very fast stuff. Looking at the specs for your mobo, you shouldn't have any problems even hooking up PC3200, if you so desired.

The advantage of getting Corsair is they are stress-tested before they leave the factory. They ARE going to perform like they say they will. Plus, the heat spreaders are pretty cool.

If you are just going to bandwidth, I would suggest RDRAM from Kingston. 1066 Mhz is hard to beat.
