I'm often an SPCS defender, but that's because I rarely have
to deal with CS, and when I do my experiences have generally been
good.
Not this time. My wife is going to Toronto this weekend and I
tried to find out how much we'll be paying when she calls within
Toronto and back to the US.
My first call to CS was routed to India, to a CS rep whose
accent made her hard to understand. (Don't get me wrong, my wife is
not an English speaker, and I work in the international community, so
I'm not unused to foreign accents. This person had a distinct problem,
however). The CS rep didn't understand my question, told me she
couldn't answer it, but agreed to ask a supervisor. She came back with
a figure of 42 cents/minute, and no extra charges for calling back to
the US. This didn't sound right.
I went to the SPCS web site, and though I'm a researcher by
profession, I could not find this information there. I'm not
infallible, though, so if anyone can point out where I missed it, I'd
be grateful.
I called SPCS again, and this time got a rep who spoke English
fairly well, but unfortunately had never learned how polite people
converse with one another. He started by telling me that he could add
a $3 roaming plan to my service. I told him I didn't need that for two
days in Toronto. Then he told me that I might need my credit card to
call, and I told him that didn't sound right - I'd traveled to
Montreal twice before and just called as though I were roaming in the
US. No credit card necessary. Then he told me there was no way to know
how much the calls would cost because he "didn't know if I'd be
roaming with a Sprint roaming partner or not". "Even though I'll just
be in downtown Toronto" I asked. He said that there was no way to know
and I'd just have to wait for the bill to come in. I told him to ask a
supervisor and get back to me.
Instead he switched me to the "international roaming dept." A
rep. there promptly told me the calls would cost 65 cents/minute,
whether I was calling within Canada or back to the US.
Sheesh. That sure took a while. Sorry for the long lead, but I
had to vent.
Is this correct? 65 cents a minute while in Canada, period?
Thanks, DGI
