I'm having a weird problem with my Logitech Mouseman Dual Optical. It works okay in the PS2 port, but when I try it in USB, it has this strange habit: the mouse sensitivity seems to randomly have short bursts of super high speed, where a slight touch will send the cursor all the way across the screen. I've found it occurs most frequently when the CPU is busy.

Anyone know what could be going on? Does this sound like a common USB problem, or could it be the mouse? I know I could just keep it in the PS2 port, but I'd like to put it in USB for the extra performance.

Incidentally, my system is an Athlon XP 1700 on a MSI K7T266 Pro2 MB. I'm using Windows ME and Logitech Mouseware 9.75.

Why do you want USB for the extra performance? I would say PS/2 delivers the best performance... as it doesn't hog the shared USB bandwith.

My dual-PSU PC is so powerfull that the neighbourhood dims when I turn it on

I agree. PS/2 offers better performance for mouse than USB port. According to Tom's hardware "compared to PS2, USB is a step backward for the mouse, because PS2 can handle twice as many exchanges per second."

I seem to remember when I first plugged it into the PS2 port, it came up with a message suggesting that I use USB instead because USB would give better performance.

Weird. Still, problem solved. Thanks guys.
