My cat, drat! Has destroyed the elastic bands in my shock mount. I called
Neumann, and they want $40 for two replacement elastic bands. A little
googling revealed the suggestion to use O-rings. The problem: some of the
pieces of the elasic "went missing" and I'm not sure of the correct O-ring
diameter I'll need. Does anyone know the right size?

Take the assembly down to a Bearing and Seal shop. They'll fix you right up
with the proper sized ring. They tend to stretch a bit anyways. A Viton
ring may last longer.

Depends on the size of the cat. Large enough to stretch over the head yet
elastic enough when in place to cut off air intake.

I've found that shovels work best for this kind of work. They server a
purpose in the euthanizing and disposal of said creature.

No. But don't throw away the old cat litter yet.

Sheep ranchers use a tiny-but-thick rubber band called an
elastrator(tm). The tool that goes along with them stretches them out
fairly large, so it should make just about anything to fit your cat.
