Cutting into a case with a plastic or thin steel side panel with a Dremel tool is fairly easy if you take your time and follow the outline of the window precisely, and the only hard part when actually installing a window is getting the darned rubber gasket to fit. It can be a tight squeeze.
But with an aluminum case, I'd myself would greatly prefer a laser cut. You are absolutely right; mutilating a nice case would be a very disappointing thing.
IMHO, unless you have a steady hand, the right tools, and have some experience with case modding, I'd order the case with the window pre-installed, or get someone with some previous experience to do it for you.
That's my opinion, for what it's worth. Ambition vs common sense ... take your pick.
