I have the off-the-shelf protools/mbox setup on a windows xp system.
What do I need to add/replace to be able to do amateur recordings of 8
or more separate tracks, simultaneously?
The mbox only does 2 at a time.
Well you can either buy a mixer (Mackie or whatever) and mix everything
in the analog realm, treating the MBox as a 2-track recorder in which
case you will not be able to change levels or process tracks
individually after the recording....
or....
You can upgrade to a Digi002R unit (assuming you want to stick with
ProTools) which lets you get 8 separate tracks into ProTools at once
which you can process individually after the recording, as well as
messing with levels and panning and stuff. You might still need a mixer
as the Digi002R only has 4 mic inputs, so if you want more mic inputs,
you'll need either a mixer or outboard mic preamps as well.
