my sister bought a dell (I know, I know)with P4 1.8, and 256mg pc2100. she wants to upgrade her memory now, can i just stick in some saumsung with the genric?

The answer is basically yes. However they might have something specific for that machine. Check Dell.com and Crucial.Com to see if there are any specific differences.

The computer I am writing this on is a DELL and I have changed the SoDIMM module to a Crucial. There probably will not be any issues but I wouldn't put it past Dell, Compaq, and Gateway to do something where you NEED THEIR memory modules. I can't stand them.
