Hi

I am planning to put up a Home recording set-up. Could someone plz let
me know

1) Which is a better OS for home recording - MAC or Windows? I thought
of going for MAC Powerbook but in Cyprus, where I live, MAC has very
less technical support. Also, I see that I get a lot of music software
for Windows on internet rather than for MAC. So, am I right in thinking
that Windows is a better chioce?

2) Is it any problem if I use a laptop for my studio instead of a
desktop?

3) Cubase Vs. ProTools Vs. Logic. Which is better?

Thanks
Pardha

Hi Lorin

Thanks so much for your detailed reply. That was what exactly I needed.

I was just wondering about two things

1) if working with a laptop for extended hours (5-6 hrs at a stretch)
cuases any problems to it?

2) Do I need to spend more money to get a high audio output from a
laptop?

Would be great if you can answer these...

Thanks again
Pardha

Nope. I recently worked on a commercial video project done entirely on
laptops. I cut the audio on a Sony Vaio while the picture editor used a
Powerbook. We plugged along for hours at a time with no ill effects
whatsoever.

Not anymore, with the proliferation of USB and Firewire audio
interfaces.

The added benefit is that the interface can then be used with more than
one machine. I have an MBox, and I can use with my Sony laptop, my
desktop machine and our iBook. I just plug it into whichever machine I
happen to be using.
