Hi, I have a small Pro Tools LE setup, based on a Digi002 rack. I use a
Behringer ADA8000 for most of my mic-pre's, but I've recently bought a Rode
K2 mic. Given I've bought quite a nice sounding mic I would like a pre to
match. I was thinking about buying the Focusrite Platinum TrakMaster, which
I can get for £150 (UKP), which is about $290 (USD). This is about as much
as I am able/willing to spend.

Is this a good option, or does someone know a better product. Any
suggestions appreciated.

Thanks,
Pete.

I don't know about Focusrite but I've heard the JoeMeek Mike Pre the
ThreeQ and it's pretty nice. I don't know if they carry it in the UK,
but in the US they sell for $200 new at any outfit. The ThreeQ also
comes with a compressor and the three EQ. Just a thought.

If you're really looking to stretch your dollar (or as another option
altogether) you could pick up a relatively inexpensive tube mic pre and
swap out the tube for something warmer/brighter.
