Explorer not responding when opening a specific folder

Hi I'm working on an almost 2 year old installation of windows 7 ultimate and Ive been running into an issue lately:

when going into my "music" folder located in the F: drive explorer crashes, every folder in the whole HDD seems fine. it only crashes on that specific folder.

PS the HDD is partitioned into 3 parts that are all used as media storage.

  1. Should reinstall your OS at least once a year, I do it on average 3 times a year. It can be corrupted, full of malware, lots of things on a 2 year old install.

Try running a check disk on the accected drive, the whole drive, not just that partition.
You may find it's something simple like a file allocation error.
Hopefully not anything semi serious like a bad cluster.
  3. I would love to do that as a last resort as I don't have time to back up all my data and reinstall windows and then reinstall my applications.
