The latest realism patch version 5 is available at:

www.twcenter.net

Changes include unifying the romans to get rid of the various families
(theres now only Romans not Julii Brutii Scipii) and reworking the battles
system entirely. Sounds good.

Actually you want the v5.1 patch as well now as an update. Well I think its
an update but its not clear from the 5.1 readme whether its a stand alone
patch or not. I would patch with 5 then 5.1 just to be sure. Also make sure
you remove the map file from the data folder before you play. And you may
also have to set the first time play variable to false in order to play too.

Personally I think these patches are being released far too quickly and not
being adequately checked before release as there are still quite major bugs
in them not least the fact that you have to do so much to amend files to get
playing the game once theyve been installed.

But rest assured that they are definitely worth it. The v5.0 patch
completely changes the gameplay. It removes the Scipii and Brutii and
amalgamates all of the roman families into one state just called Romans. It
also extends the map further east. And loads of rebel states are added as
well an new units. Theyve also revised the battle system to make it more
realistic. Its definitely much more fun playing the game now.
