Been having hard drive thrashing for awhile. It's a 60gb WD(I think) 7200rpm hard drive. I've only had it for a couple months. This thrashing has started since last month.

Do I need a new HD? Is it my power supply or something that's causing it to thrash?

Thx.

A bit more information please!
Brand and model of the drive?
how much system ram do you have?
are you doing lots of stuff on your computer?

'thrashing' could be too little ram cauzing excessive hard drvie accessing, or something worse like bad sectors cauzing multiple reading.

I'm not sure on model. All I can say is 60gb WD 7200rpm (most likely 2mb cache) model.

512mbs DDR-2700

I do do alot, I game, download alot, and run constant programs.

sounds natural

games tend to access the drive alot... as does downloading as it saves the files section by section.

hard and heavy thrashing with the light constantly on probably means you are using the swapfile excessivly, but that shouldnt happen all that often with 512mb ram.

if the drive is making clicking or grinding noises repeatedly though there might be a problem
