Hi

I have been having trouble getting my pc into the DMZ on my mn700.
I'm trying to play an online game (starfleet command 3). The game uses
direct x to connect, so I tried to set up port forwarding with the TCP
& UDP ports Microsoft said I needed, and it wouldn't connect. Then I
put the pc into the dmz, to see if that would work. The game still
won't connect. The router has dhcp enabled, and in control
panel/networking on the pc I have the box checked to get ip address
automatically. Do I need to enter the pc IP address (192.xxx....)?
Has anyone been able to get the DMZ to work on a mn700? The pc is
connected to the router with a wire, only using the wireless for
mn740/xbox (which connects great, no problems at all by the way). Any
advise would be greatly appreciated.

Russ

Russ, here's a Knowledge Base article on ports needed for DirectPlay:
http://support.microsoft.com/defau [...] -us;240429 You don't
need to use DMZ in most cases, in fact that only opens your system to the
outside world. What you do need to do is direct the port opening to the
proper machine on your system. Your "public" IP - your Internet address -
is one thing, and that's to the router/base station only. On your side of
the router, you need to direct the port to the proper machine.
