Would appreciate it if someone could enlighten me as to the
difference, if any, between the Samsung SPH-A660 and VI660 models. I
keep seeing these two model numbers being used interchangably. Are
they the same?

I believe they're the same. SPH-A660 is Samsung's model number - most
Samsung phones for Sprint PCS are SPH, and "A" phones are flip-style, I
think.
Sprint renames the phones to group them by major feature: VI (Vision -
no camera), PM (Picture Mail), RL (Ready Link), VM (Vision Movie), etc.
The VGA1000 probably would have become the PM620, but it predated the
new numbering system.

To make things interesting, if you buy a VI-660 it will still say SPH-A660 on
the back of the phone. They are absolutely the same model.
