Hi,
Could someone supply me with an Enemy Nations download link please?
I'm so confused about this game's freeware status.... is it or isn't
it? The website says its available for sale, yet they don't mind us
downloading it.... but don't put up a download link.

Why would you want to play that game? It's a terrible, terrible game. I
mean, really bad. And it's really old too, if it's the same one that I
played about 8 years ago. Do yourself a favor, stab yourself in the
face with a fork. It's more fun.

As one of the other 6 people that bought it full price when it was
available, I agree, it was a terrible game with some interesting ideas. But
ideas that might make it an interesting classroom simulation still make it a
terrible game, not worth playing. If you need something free, just get
SPWAW, that should keep you busy for a while.

The only good part of the game is that one of the partners died.

You're right, I didn't ask you if the game was good or bad :-)
I want to play as many games as possible to get ideas for games I
write. And being penniless, I'd like to download as many free ones as
I can :-)

It may have had some interesting design elements, but it was tedious
and annoying to play. You'd set some resource trucks to move materials,
and they'd end up driving off into the enemy base because the
pathfinding was so bad. And I mean, driving three times as far to get
destroyed at the enemy base than the original destination was.
I also remember that the infantry units all looked the same, and they
were hard to find anyway on the battlefield. But like I said, it was 7
or 8 years ago, I don't remember much about the game, except that both
me and my friend returned it in disgust.

Even so I'll pitch in :-)
I bought the game, and I rather enjoyed the empire building aspect of
it.
What was just impossible was, that you could wipe an enemy out to the
penultimate vehicle, and you still couldn't win because he'd still have
a single [motorbike] hiding under the the forest canopy somewhere, on a
huge map. Now that's tedious.

Yeah. that was way over the top.

Couple of things you might not know.
The main developer of the game was fairly active on csipgs.
He ended up basically getting hounded by "fans" crying about lack of support
(EN was no worse than others from that era.)
He subcontracted a bit of the AI to a loon. Parts of it were never fixed.
Windward never got paid for the game.
(As far as I know, Stardock never got paid by Strategy First for GalCiv. It
seems to be fairly common for publishers to not pay development studios.
It's one reason the industry has trouble attracting talent.)

What enemy base? You built up your city/base and then set out to
kill the enemy. Only to find that the AI forgot to build a base or
anything else. And then the 2 guys who made the game came on here
and lied about the defect.
And you call that a "interesting design elements"? You have a screw
loose somewhere.
It was very poor shareware that was hyped into a real price tag.

The Underdogs reviews are usually written by users. I've taken a look at
one such review that bashed TA:Kingdoms, and it was pretty obvious the
writer hasn't played enough of the game (e.g. he stated offhandedly that
Zhon doesn't have long-range units, where the Stone Giant proves it wrong.)
I've also seen "Crime Cities" (action game) rated as Top-Dog as well.
However, it is unacceptable for it's time, because of the ease in faking
out opponents (fly backward, strafe in circles, align circles pointing to
enemy, and shoot at maximum range.)
