I have a Toshiba Satellite L455-S5975 Laptop Computer that is not functioning properly. When I try to turn it on, it only gets as far as a black screen with a flashing cursor in the upper left hand corner. I have tried to recover it but still I only get to the black screen with the blinking cursor in the upper left hand corner of the screen. What is the problem and how can I correct it ? It is Windows 7 Home Premium 32 Bit.

if the recovery failed try to do a fresh install of windows. if that fails then you have some defective equipment in your computer.

1) Press and hold the 0 (zero) key and at the same time, tap the power button once to switch on your notebook.

2) When the machine Starts beeping; release the 0 key.

3) When prompted by the warning screen; select Yes to continue with the system recovery.

4) Select Recovery of Factory Default Software; click Next.

5) Select Recover to out-of-box state. Click Next again.

7) Click Next to Start recovery.

As nhasian says, if that fails it's a hardware prob. (Try new HDD?)
