A680 Ringer Dead

Forum Network Providers : Sprint PCS A680 Ringer Dead

Over the last few days, the ringer on my 5 month old A680 started to cut out
during each ring. Now it doesn't ring at all, unless you put your ear right
up to the speaker, then you can hear it faintly ringing, even when set to
full volume. Keypad sounds no longer work either.

Before I invoke the Best Buy PSP and get a new one, I was wondering if
anyone knew of a quick fix. Power-cycling didn't seem to help.

Thanks...

I've heard of this problem before. I think the A680 has some bugs that
need to be worked on. I've found a few myself but nothing that major.

I had the very same thing happen to me just 37 days after buying my A680. I
took it to Radio Shack when I should have gone to my local Sprint Store
instead. I was fortunate, though, that the manager of Radio Shack gave me a
brand new phone, even though I was 7 days outside of the 30-day return
policy. Looking back, it sounded more like a problem with corrupt data, and
sounds like having someone at a Sprint Store re-flash the data might solve
the problem. When this happened to mine, the ringers went out, however, all
of my other sounds (keypad, startup, shutdown, etc.) were just fine. It
apparently was not a speaker problem since those sounds sounded good. Take
your phone to your local Sprint Store to see if they can help you.

Yes, the ringer issue is a known problem. I haven't been able to determine
if it's hardware or software-based, but it is indeed an issue. Mine started
acting up after a few months. I swapped it out for another, and that one
was acting up within a few days. So, alas, I am using an 8200, and quite
pleased with it.

FWIW, the A680's both came back from the RadioShack repair center with
generic "tested all functions, unit checks good" comments on the invoices,
but the ringers were working properly when they returned to the store.
Fixed? Apparently so. Still don't know what the problem was though.
