hiya, i was just wondering, what does anyone think might happen if I placed a gender change on one of the IDE plugs on a cable and then put an extra cable on this cable, giving me 3 IDE plugs along one cable. do you think that would work?

thanks for any help,
iak.

I thing IDE cables with 3 connectors are fairly common and cheap, so there should be no reason for making those using adapters. After all, you need one connector for the motherboard, one for the master and one for the slave IDE device. I would also think that adapters extending the IDE cable may result in some signaling properties of this homemade cable violating the IDE standard.

If you where indeed thinking on making an IDE cable with more than three connectors (for connecting three devices to one IDE channel), please don't try that. I don't know what will happen, but if your system doesn't boot with such a configuration, consider this a good thing...

OK don't be silly

it won't work!!!!!!!!!!!

an IDE cable can ONLY have 2 devices by design. you would need more than 40 pins for any more devices.

find out how MASTER AND SLAVE works and you will have your answer as too why you can't do it. but its too long for me to explain

yes... in the old days you could daylink your ide's but not now... only 2 devices per mobo header are allowed...

To err is human... to really screw things up you need a computer!

2 connectors. Master and slave.
If you want more. daisy chain some scsi drives together.
