Been playing the game with amusement for a while today.
Heres what may be a silly question - How and when are you able to arm
yourself ?
I've been running all over the place getting my ass kicked by the cops, and
so far have figured out no way to fight back.
Is there a certain point that you have to reach to get a gun or something ?
I've made it to running around on a rooftop then into a room, then down some
steps and then I'm cornered and killed.

You are not killed that is where the game starts, as such.
You are knocked unconscious and when you come round........

Not long now before you get the crowbar! Soon after that conking some
guards on the noggin will win you a pistol. And from the next level
onwards the weapons ramp up pretty well, tho' ammo is sometimes short...

Obviously since there are no, at the time, verified posting to csipgs
from the otherworld
(even though sometimes we wonder)

I got knocked down at another location and everything turned red.
I was able to just lay there and listen as others got their asses kicked, but
couldn't get up.
So your saying this time, just let my ass get kicked, then wait and I'll come
back to life ?

I'll give that a try.
Figured I was missing some kind of stashed gun or something.
I'm still used to doom 3, where you can at least fight with fists if nothing
else.

I am now in that same spot - After coming down steps, theres a narrow hallway
with a door at each end.
Problem now is theres no cops to knock me out.
The steps desintigrate after I walk down them, neither door will open, and it
appears that I have reached a glitch in the game where there is nowhere to go
and nothing to do.
Right about now I'm wishing that I had got something else.
I'm not a big fps fan anyhow.

I can't remember the details. Somewhere around this time a girl called
Alix meets you and opens a secret door behind a drinks machine. Or do
you mean after you are locked out after the teleport accident? There is
a way (maybe climbing over something) and then you wind up in a railway
yard that is slightly confusing to escape from. After that it gets
simpler.

If that's not enough, I bet you can find a walkthrough on the internet -
search with Google. There are a few places in the early levels where
progressing can be quite a puzzle.

Well the best of luck :)

I just hope that you are in the SECOND building, that you escaped to along
the roof, and not still in the first where you are running away from the
Police.

No the first I got out of.
If I remember correctly, I went walking around and saw a cop by a fenced
entrace.
He told me to throw a can in the garbage, I did and he walked away, so I went
through the gate.
There was people standing in some line, then I walked outside and walked all
over the place, until finally I walked down an alley with broken playground
equipment, then through a door ... Then the cops were busting everyone around
and thats about when I was hustled up to the roof by some black guy.

definitely a bug and not one Ive heard of before - though there is
a bug with the warez version where the AI doesnt work properly which could
cause the error you describe so that begs the question is your version legit
?
