I am trying to decide which I should get for my comp. I am on a maxtor 40 gig and it is getting to be slow and real noisy. So I decided to get a new HDD, but I do not know which is worth the cash. I plan on getting the 8mb cache and they both are about the same price. I want the one that is very stable and can hold its own for a long time.

Thanks for the any input.

Both Seagate and Western Digital are good drives.

But, on the maxtor... when's the last time you defragmented it?

I've been called on "slow drive" and "noisey drive" calls many times and all that was needed was a thorough defragmentation to get them back to their perky selves.

Before I posted on this site I did a full defrag so no it is not that. I got this hdd a long time ago.

Ok... so much for the obvious

Seriously though... both Seagate and WD are fine products. I've used both and would recommend either.

For whatever minor difference it might make, WD seems to have a little better customer support, at least they've always been able to answer my questions well enough.

I would say stick with the WD caviar series drives with 8 meg buffer, they are fast, quiet.. and have a 3 year warranty...

To err is human... to really screw things up you need a computer!
