Apologies for the post about strategy gaming, which seems to be coming more
and more off-topic around here, but finally the new patch for Freedom Force
is out which allows the game to run under XP SP2:

Since when? The only off-topic posts I've seen would be from the DiFool
spammer that keeps bashing Steam/Half-Life. Other than that, there's more
than enough Strategy game postings.

Technically, Freedom Force is closer to an RPG rather than Strategy, even
though it uses an interface similar to an RTS.

Thanks for the heads up! I had shelved this game after Service Pack 2 came
out. Good to see that I will now have a real chance to try it out finally.

i have a problem with my copy of 'Freedom Force' - it installs no
problem but when i come to run it, the program asks me to insert the
CD.. which is strange since it's in the drive - or if i quit and try
to restart the game, it tells me that the CD may be dirty, remove any
dirt and try again.. what's that about then? think i should patch it
first and then try running it?..

Probably the copy protection is not compatible with your drive.

You could try making an image with Alchohol 120% and then mount the image
using Daemon Tools and it should allow you to play the game. Not every
drive, however, can make a 1:1 image file of a copy-protected CD.

Another option is get a NO-CD crack, but if you are on SP2 then there
probably isn't one out yet for the new patch.

Well i had the exact same problem with 'Knights of the Old Republic'
but that was resolved by me taking it back to the store and getting a
replacement - which works flawlessly, unfortunately i don't have that
option with 'Freedom Force' since i've had nearly 2yrs old.. still
thanks for the suggestions, i'll look into it.. i appreciate the help.
