bought a wd 120 gb hard drive to use as my new 'data drive'. i put it in a computer running win2k svr. i'm not sure what the best setup for the disk is.

under the 'computer management' applet in control panel, i use the 'disk management' function to create a partition. should i choose Primary or Extended? once i do that, i want to assign the entire thing to 1 drive letter. fat32 wont address that large, right? so i use ntfs?

You want to create a primary partition, and if its Win2K you want to use NTFS, as NTFS is optimized for NT/2K and will give you better performance, as well as security, than Fat32.

just create a primary partition on your new drive... and format with NTFS. NTFS is the way to go with volumes larger than 32Gb.
Can have huge drives with small cluster sizes, as well as being less prone (in my experience) to corruption.

Agreed... use NTFS for larger drives.. I gained a whole 5 gigs from converting...

To err is human... to really screw things up you need a computer!

plus you also dont have to worry about the 4Gb limit... annoying if you are doing divx encoding.
