Three possibilities:

- The pot is dirty - it can be cleaned
- The pot is worn out - it can be replaced
- There's a leaky coupling capacitor in the preamp section- it can be replaced

You should probably take it to a shop. Be prepared to pay $60 to $100.
While they have it apart, they'll probably clean all the pots. Mackie
mixers are difficult enough to work on that you proabably shouldn't
attempt cleaning yourself. If you haven't done this on other
equipment, your 1202 isn't a good thing to learn on. You probably
won't break anything, but you might not be able to help either.
