The Langevin DVC has two identical channels of mic pre ->limiter->eq
topology.

This is, in my humble opinion, the single best value in high end audio
gear. It's also an incredibly versatile piece of kit, for several
reasons.

First, the preamps sound great on nearly every source. I used them most
frequently on voice, acoustic guitar, and overheads. They have a
character that is mostly clean, subtly warm. They're not fat like a
Neve, neither are they transparent like a Grace. Whatever they are,
they're top shelf and I used them in every session since I bought them.

Second, it's two complete channel strips in one unit. The eq section
has a low shelf switchable from 40hz to 80hz. 40hz simply adds weight to
bass and kick without eating space in the more easily perceptible (and
easily overdone) mid-bass region. 80hz affects things more audibly, but
is very tight. It will round things out in a way digital eq can't touch,
namely, with bigness. The same is true of the hi shelf, which is silky
at both 8k and 12k. 8k is great for opening the top on acoustics, just a
db will do. 12k does the same for vocals. It's a simple eq section,
perfect for tracking.

The limiter is perfect for voice (no surprise there) and acoustics;
it's also great for making synths chunkier. It gets in and gets out
fast, and if you keep the gain reduction peaking at 4db it'll do so
invisibly. If you step on things harder, it thickens things up
considerably, and if you squash it (8db or more) it gets really creamy
and hairy, like an 1176 at 20:1. It sounds badass, but I recommend being
conservative when tracking and saving the heavy-handed stuff for
mixdown, which is easily done as the limiter can be patched into on its
own, sidestepping the preamp and eq circuitry.
