Eating meat does not make you fat.

The kind that's full of hormones does, but a nice natural slab of meat is very good for both body and mind.

So full of uncertain innuendo, this post.

You can eat a lot of shit and not gain weight if u do enuf exercise...including eating bk often. The key is using that energy somewhere. When I go on my trek I consume upwards of 7000 calories a day, and I lose weight. I try not to go above 5000 when at home tho, cause it'd be unnecessary past that point.

Phial doesn't look at it with the nutritional value really, it's more personal morality when it comes to eating meat.

Like I said; poor quality, polluted, meat is very unhealthy and will make you a nasty porker if your body chemistry is right. (Or wrong, I guess I should say)

i agree (weird huh? lmao)

eating meat is healthy as long as you prepare it correctly.

why would God put animals on the earth if he didnt want us to eat them?

what is the point of domesticating any animal?

cows = milk and steak
pigs = bacon and pork chop
chickens = eggs and chicken breasts

anybody got a better answer?

I applaud your decision in being a vegetarian. Don't let other people's ignorance weaken your convictions!

I have to put up with a lot of [-peep-] for being vegan. However, I don't blame people. I was anti-vegan while I was vegetarian; and I was anti-vegetarian while I was an omnivore. I still can't stand the "holier than thou" veggies though, especially the preachers.

im almost vegan, just i hate to give up milk.. i know that animals can be treated very humanely, even better than they are in the wild. my grandparents were like that, the cows had 100% freedom, he never forced them to be in their stall, and they had 200 acres to graze at their will. he milked them when they were inside in the evening eating or resting. cows looked healthy and happy. same with his chickens, they had like an acre to themselves, enough room to move and keep plenty healthy, and always had more than enough food. i dont mind eating eggs and milk from animals that are kept like that

I'm 100% for legitimate farms. It's a shame that the only reason animals are treated so horribly and meat has become so unhealthy is because a multi-billion dollar industry can't give up a cent.

It took me a LONG time to give up cheese.

The quality of meat, especially in the US, is appalling. I for one am very glad about the embargo Euorope puts on US meat.
Most mammals are not that different from humans, chemicaly. If you pack copious amounts of mammal-hormones and other chemicals in to our food, it's bound to effect humans as well.

I speak from experience. I remember (my parents)being really surprised at how cheap meat is in the US when we moved there. For a couple years we ate cheap supermarket chicken, pork etc. and it completely ruined my metabolism. I was almost over-weight(officialy), and this from the very stick-thin young person I used to be. My grandma used to cry on looking at me.

I had not changed my diet much, more candy maybe, but not by much as my mother was strict with cola/candy/etc. After we started buying, and stores started selling, healthier alternatives I slowly became less and less fat even while becoming less active due to studies. I still have signs from that time, but recovery is a very slow process.

The day Microsoft will make something that doesn't suck is the day they'll start making vacuum cleaners.

It's my private theory on America's obesity problem. American kids aren't any less active or eat more than most kids form developed countries, but they are statistically fatter than any.

My familly have always been farmers up to my grandpa, who was a military man, and I know for a fact that it takes years for a cow or pig to mature to full grown eating material. And it's not supposed to weigh a 1000 pounds.

Seriously, compare a normal chicken, one free to roam wild, to one grown for food on a huge poultry farm. A chicken is supposed to be blue with pockets of yellow fat, not a huge, white, fat, jelly-soft mass. And try making soup from a normal one, it takes hours of cooking for it to be tender and soft.

And it does not taste like chicken. Chicken has a very unique, distinct flavor.

Sorry for rambling, but it pisses me off. I feel like it's a conspiracy by world food-giants: no one is really investigating the affects of hormones, genetically modified foods, etc. on humans, and I'm 100% that those things have adverse effects on our health.

I totally agree. I think highly processed foods are a major source of America's health problems.

Huge corporations like these food-giants have an insane amount of influence regarding the laws and regulations that are passed. I think the hormores, excessive antibiotics, and genetically altered foods are responsible for many of the cancer spikes in America. It seems like the only safe thing to do nowadays is to raise/grow it in your backyard.

I think that kids are less active nowadays than in the past, say 20 years. Computers, video games, and a billion channels on TV are to blame.

After I turned like 10, I had always been a bit overweight. Maybe 15 pounds or so. I'm 5'8" and currently weigh 165. My highest weight ever was 175, and about 2 years ago I didn't eat much as I was at school for 8 hours a day 5 days a week and I didn't eat breakfast or lunch, so I got down to about 155. After stopping little league at 10, I had never been physically active for long periods of time.

But, I've been going to the gym 3 days a week for 1-2 hours for the past 3 months or so and I have seen a difference. Although I have stayed at the same weight, I have gained a lot of muscle mass. I started bench pressing (on a machine) at like 80-100 pounds, but now I'm doing 190-200. I could still see to lose maybe another 5-10 pounds of fat, but gain twice that in muscle.

I too would like to start eating organic meats, but it's just so expensive and the supermarkets around where I live don't really carry any. I really think all the growth hormones and antibiotics these animals are pumped full of their whole lives may have an effect on the people who eat them. Maybe there's a causation between all this hormone crap and kids reaching sexual maturity at younger and younger ages (anyone see that Nip/Tuck episode?)

More and more people are becoming more health conscience (hence McDonald's new "Go meals" and their ending of supersizing), so I think it will be a trend for food producers to be more responsible in the future.

the Japanese have amazing medical knowledge.. its not all science based either, its the 'yin-yang' thing, harmony between body and mind. we ARE psychosomatic so i think "Science" needs to back off alittle and look into the mind more for healing. instead of just shoving pills down our throat

Not everyone, unfortunately, has a powerful mind enough to sustain heavy mental damage and seek professional advice without medical attention along it. My teacher said it best, the balance of both is the best way to go through a hard time. It is MUCH better to take meds AND seek therapy, because you at least fight your problem with real words as well, and the meds do their own part of the job.

Seeking one without the other, isn't always going to work, unless the medication was for something less serious than trauma or some other recurring issue. (recovering from breakup for example)

Alas, when you have parents that let your roam free and don't care one bit how their child acts towards other kids, the way he talks (or even swears!), isn't grounded or punished for bad acts, you just don't have much of a choice.

I grew up with corporal punishment (not to the extreme) and as much as I disliked it, I think it definitely made the kid stand straight and realize what he did wrong was to not be repeated.

some people are blessed with high metabolism and can eat anything, which is probably the case with you. and i KNOW meat can be relatively healthy, if you eat the right kinds and not excessive amounts. Rcpilot looks skinney as a pole in his picture, so hes probably got a fast metabolism as well (plus he probably actually goes outside once in a while). as Eden said , i dont eat meat mostly for moral reasons (i dont think we should kill innocent animals for our own benifit, when we can EASILY get by without eathing them), but it IS a known fact that animal fat, even in small amounts, isnt that healthy and your better off without it. my mother is a 20 year experienced nurse and sometimes has to make eating schedules for older people, and i got this information from her, so its not like im making it up or anything

Got a 6er cooling currently, and my friend has just joined the ranks. He took a case on vacation with him. I went round his place last week while our wives spent the whole night yapping at my place, and I introduced him to the delights. Another one in place.

Found quite a few places are starting to serve it on draft round my neck of the woods too. Might have to check those out pretty damned soon.
